Film Fashion: Café Society
Wednesday, August 31, 2016
1930s Hollywood glamour returns to the big screen with Woody Allen's latest film Cafe Society. It stars the likes of Jeannie Berlin, Steve Carell and Jesse Eisenberg, with an extra dose of glamour from Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart. The central character Bobby (Eisenberg) goes from New York to L.A to exploit the Hollywood connections of his uncle and becomes enamored with the luxury lifestyle. You can tell from the trailer alone that the visuals will be a real draw with this film. All throughout Cannes Film Festival this year, Stewart and Lively stole the spotlight with their on-point outfits, and it's just a small reflection of Cafe Society's aesthetics. Chanel even provided and made clothes and jewellery for Stewart's character, a secretary (unsurprising given she is a muse and face of Chanel) and Blake who plays a Manhattan socialite. The dazzling accessories speak volumes too, nailing the 1930s glamour. It's time to bring back the retro, with fine costume jewellery, feather headdresses, and simple sundresses!
As Bobby is torn between his two leading ladies, I'm torn between which costumes I like more. Will you be Team Vonnie/Kristen...
Or Team Veronica/Blake?
