We've said seeya later to New York and jetted off to London as Fashion Week gets well underway. But there were some absolutely unbelievably exciting collections in New York that definitely deserve more than a shout out! I've been following closely mainly on Instagram (@instahautecouture is brilliant) and I can't even pick a definite list of highlights because they keep changing. Man, I wish I'd been there!

 J. Mendel

Mendel, known for his impressive craftsmanship, debuted his old Hollywood-inspired Spring 2018 collection. With 30 stunning evening gowns, there's such range - I love the stoles, the capes, the unashamedly frilly frills...such elegance.

And my favourites...!

Marchesa

If you asked me about 10 years ago (about the time I started taking interest in eveningwear), I'd say my favourite designer was Marchesa. Then I mispronounced it for another couple of years. I still rank them so highly, the show is like a walking fairytale. This collection has been inspired by travels to Japan and I can certainly see that with the cherry blossom. I don't love every piece of this, but I really love the floral embellishment.

Reem Acra

Their bridal gowns are legendary, but this ready-to-wear collection was a lot more light-hearted with some shapes straight out of the 60s. Gold belts featured on nearly every outfit (Wonder Woman inspired perhaps!?) but my favourites were actually the florals. I'm feeling a theme here...


And my favourite goes to...

Oscar de la Renta

Oscar is another firm favourite up there! Ok, the paint splodges don't seem super luxe, but the bright primary colour tailored pieces are fun, and there are some nice touches with de la Renta handwritten notes. If that isn't a signature print, then what is?


And of course, the evening pieces. I love these midi gowns!

Michael Costello 

He's going to town with the chiffon gown! And check out that flower wall. Damn. This blushed pink colour is so, so pretty.

Colour-blocking is hardly new, nor a "trend", but when La La Land burst onto screens with Emma Stone & co.'s bright, colourful dresses, it put a great big smile on my face. It's like the Teletubbies suddenly got fashionable. For years, my Google search history has been littered with the words "yellow dress" as I continue to strive to find my perfect yellow dress. And trust me, I've been searching.

Emma Stone's character Mia pays tribute to the retro style (often forgotten by High Street labels nowadays), with flattering dresses reflecting the glorious, sunny technicolour of the Hollywood age. As the film gears up for the Academy Awards this Sunday, I've been digging up my own La La Land-inspired pieces...particularly the yellow dress! It's my favourite colour - happy, bold, cheery.


And it seems both Mia and Emma are big fans of the colour too, with it being a firm favourite of the actress (Emma) on the red carpet, and the wannabe actress (Mia) in the soon-to-be iconic sunset tap scene.


The La La Land effect is spreading to my favourite online shop too - with ASOS now conveniently stocking many more bright yellow frocks than it used to (trust me, I'd know). Have a browse for yourself and see how you can bring the LA sunshine to your winter wardrobe.

Behold, the red carpet awaits! Tis the season where I flick through red carpet galleries and dream about fancy frocks and dazzling embellishment... Fashion is art, and I love seeing how people will express themselves next. Take the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, for example, a classy affair full of gorgeous gowns. Here are two fun themes I spotted on the carpet:

1. Can't decide? #BestOfBothWorlds 

2. The necklace. #MakeAStatement

Aha, the humble statement necklace never goes out of style. The always-classy/forever-girlcrush Amy Adams kept things simple with a black dress by Brandon Maxwell but jazzed up by some serious neck bling. Bryce Dallas-Howard looks a million dollars but her dress cost £247!! It's still not cheap as chips but compared to the $$$$$ price tags of some, this is so refreshing. The tiered necklace complements it well too. Kirsten Dunst probably has one of my favourite outfits of the night - a Dior gown with embellished straps that's wedding worthy...but it's gone from aisle to red carpet with just a necklace. SAG-winner Viola Davis rounds up the necklace squad with a similar design and timeless dress by Vivienne Westwood.

Amy Adams may not have been nominated for an Oscar, but she's always a red carpet winner.

3. My favourites. #TheWildcards

I'm such a fan of this year's outfits so it's hard to pick favourites. We have Ellie Kemper's midnight blue velvet dress, Angela Sarafyan (Westworld) throwing some strong shapes,  Claire Foy in a lovely detailed Valentino number and Teresa Palmer representing Hacksaw Ridge in a powerfully metallic dress that probably weighs a ton but looks great.

There have been some stunning SS17 collections here in New York over the past few days. Somehow, little Londoner me ended up sitting in the front row at two shows and I simply have to gush about how amazing some of these dresses were. After all, I had quite the view!

Vivienne Hu

Whilst the live singers and violinist seemed slightly out of place, there was a lot to look at for Hu's Spring/Summer 2017 show. Paying tribute to the strength of New Yorkers, we were treated to some well-tailored pieces, layering, belting up, and gorgeous hues of baby blue. There was also a range of prints thrown in for good measure, and the resurgence of the gladiator sandal. Yes there was a lot to take in (almost too much!), but I imagine it all represents the hustle and bustle of the big city! I thought the blunt bobs with a hint of colour were a nice touch, too. Irina Vitjaz

Austrian-based designer Vitjaz brought us "Pure Couture" at her debut show in Skylight Clarkson Square and it was an honour to be a part of it. There were some fantastic silhouettes, some quirky, some very feminine. She chose florals and polka dots, and all of her pieces had a very ethereal, floaty feel and a consistent tone that you can tell a lot of thought has gone into.

My first New York Fashion Week has been such a whirlwind of fun! I'd never been to New York before but my idea of NY street style has always been bold and bright, so when it came to packing my suitcase, I made sure I packed an array of colour.

In fact, I found a gem of a silk shirt at a local charity shop that had been marked down even further because clearly nobody had wanted to buy something that had so many colours it was borderline  the technicolour dreamcoat (if it was a coat). Nevertheless, I bought my dreamshirt which was slightly too short to be a dress and paired it with shorts. You might say it was a fashion faux pas but a) you should always be comfortable in what you're wearing, and b) I wanted to take bright prints one step further.

I'm also a sucker for vintage, and when such 'vintage' comes straight from your mother's wardrobe, it makes it so much better! I'm obsessed with this belt and black leather backpack (est. way before the backpack resurgence), so they definitely deserved a spin out on the streets of New York.

I absolutely loved going bright(er than usual), and didn't feel out of place at all! The moral of the story is to never forget the humble charity shop, and never be afraid to show your colours!

Ring the bells and sound the alarms - Beview is jetting off to the Big Apple! Fashion Week kicks off in style and New York will be first to start showcasing from the 7th September. My latest Fashion Week was in Milan and was such a special week, so I'm more than excited to be heading Stateside this time. Desigual

I've grown up with the bright colours and patterns of Desigual all around me, and "I cannot wait to see this" is an understatement. As soon as I get to New York, this is the first thing I'll see! This current Autumn/Winter season centres around not being the same, which you can check out here. And the latest collection will be streamed live here this Thursday (8th)! Watch out for some global travelling influences from all over the world.

Ahh, couture and there's nothing I love more than extravagant, gorgeous gowns! Austrian designer Irina Vitjaz is bringing her European style to New York, and this is her North American debut! Plus, there will be an exciting operatic surprise to close the show on Monday 12th. I'll keep ya updated.

First of all, if you're in the city, there's a FREE Fashion Week lounge every day from 7th-14th at 3-5pm! It's at La Sirena in Chelsea's Maritime Hotel and here's the best bit - it's Italian Aperitivo. When living in Milan, it was the thing to do - get a drink, and there's food thrown in!

My Red Carpet Best Dressed

I'm usually a big fan of colour, which is exactly why I went for understated monochrome to make this week truly different. (As you can see, I caved on the last day.) I didn't want to overdo it, and ended up loving the black-and-white midi skirt + black top combo...very Milano! I'm not on a jetsetting fashionista budget either, so High Street stores made my Fashion Week affordable :) and I'm not sorry! My trusty black clutch (a TARDIS as it can carry everything) and black wedges follow me everywhere.

If there's one thing I've learnt from style stalking, it's that everybody loves an occasion to dress up! This is one of the reasons why I love red carpet style so much, but it was also very refreshing to see the coolest outfits on the pavements and not just the catwalks or red carpets.  I had such a good time putting my best foot forward this season; I can't wait to do it all over again next season in London.

Handmade artisan detail was shown in the best way; Bally brought in several of their leather experts to work on some projects right in front of our very eyes. Impressed was an understatement.



There was a very minimalistic colour scheme that worked perfectly. I'd call it a 'grown-up pastel' colour scheme.
