Time for some 2018 trailers!
Thursday, December 28, 2017Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a spectacular time with your loved ones. I'll shortly be sharing my 2017 round-up of all things film, but now that New Year's Eve is just around the corner, it's time to start getting excited about 2018 in film too. A lot of trailers have dropped recently and if you follow my Facebook page, you'll know I am a big fan of the trailers! And if you have some spare time over the holidays, hopefully it'll mean you have a spare few minutes to watch them too.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Here we have more ABBA tracks, guilty pleasures, and Pierce Brosnan crooning, and it's bound to be the soundtrack of the summer. We go back in time, with Meryl Streep's younger Donna played by Lily James. However, there's a little bit of controversy as people have deduced quite a major potential spoiler - and by spoiler, it doesn't look like a particularly covered up twist, I mean spoiler like it will spoil things!
Avengers: Infinity War
I was in a cafe waiting for a friend when I watched this. My friend arrived and I had to take minute because it was so shocking. Ok, this is (part one) of what we've all been waiting for. All the Marvel films have been leading up to this super-super-ensemble, so they tell us. I'm interested in how they will cram so many characters into one singular piece without it feeling disjointed, and how bad the villain/threat needs to be to warrant it. We already know that Thanos (Josh Brolin) is arriving on Earth to collect the Infinity Stones, so we'll see how it plays out!
Ocean's 8
Huzzah, our all-female squad is here for a brand new heist. It doesn't look like a tacky spin-off from this trailer. It's produced by George Clooney and involves the Met Gala (classy) and acclaimed actresses such as Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and um - Rihanna. Apparently we'll see cameos from the likes of Zayn Malik and Anna Wintour too.
Black Panther
Black Panther gets his own film in February and it stands out from the rest already. The king of Wakanda, T'Challa, moonlights as a kick-ass martial arts whizz and protector of his country, and he'll be under a new threat on his kingdom. We already got a good glimpse during Captain America: Civil War - actor Chadwick Boseman has called his character an "anti-hero" so we'll be seeing much more of that.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
More dinosaurs, hooray. Chris Pratt is back for some more slow-mo gazing and lots of running shots. The island from the previous film is at risk from a volcanic eruption so this time it's about saving the dinosaurs. Turns out it's not that simple. Who would've thought?
The Post
Something a bit more drama and fact-based now. The Post is one of the awards season front-runners with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks leading the way for nominations. Steven Spielberg's in the director's chair too, telling the story of the US Government's involvement in the Vietnam War. It's out in January so here's a preview first.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
The final chapter in this Maze Runner trilogy - they broke out of the Maze and now they're going back in to the ultimate maze. This dystopian sci-fi was pushed back by a year due to Dylan O'Brien's accident in the film but it will be out in January.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
The Nutcracker always reminds me of Christmas. The German story and the famous ballet are getting the Hollywood treatment, starring Mackenzie Foy as Clara, and Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and Miranda Hart! Watch the trailer - it looks SO much like Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland (2010), also from Walt Disney Studios.
Which ones are you most looking forward to in 2018? Watch this space for more trailer action!
