2016 Ones to Watch - The Comeback Kids

Happy New Year, folks!

As we wave goodbye to 2015, a brand new year in film begins NOW. Right now. There are many eagerly-anticipated sequels - namely Finding Dory - and some sparkling new productions. Add some spin-offs, a film about Angry Birds (yes, really), and numerous films where superheroes (and their counterpart villains) will continue to wreak havoc on the world - Superman with new pals Batman and Wonderwoman, Deadpool, all the X-Men, the Suicide Squad, some of the Avengers, Gambit and undoubtedly more. And with January's release of The Revenant, will 2016 be the year Leo DiCaprio finally wins an Oscar!? Maybe, just maybe.

My head is literally hurting with the mental list of all the films on my watch-list, so I'll be running a series of 'Ones to Watch's here on Beview. Starting with the juicy sequels, aka my comeback kids. Will they be doing a '22 Jump Street' (where 2nd is better than 1st)?

Kung Fu Panda 3
For the first time, this instalment of the franchise will be an American/Chinese production. Po will be reuniting with his biological father (no, not the noodle-selling one), and of course, it'll probably involve chaos. We don't have long to wait for this one, as it's released in January!

Now You See Me 2
Now You See Me was one of my favourite summer blockbusters of 2013, mainly because it made my head hurting an entertaining experience. My dark horse choice will see Lizzy Caplan replacing Isla Fisher, and Mr Daniel Radcliffe involved in a very different kind of magic. Set for release in June, we'll see what happens to the Four Horsemen in The Second Act.

Finding Dory
YES to this. Yes yes yes yes. There are plenty of fish in the sea, but our favourites will always be Nemo, Marlin, Dory and friends. 13 years since they first captured our hearts, Dory will be on a quest to find herself. And her family (the mum will be voiced by Diane Keaton, so I'm gonna guess she finds them).

Bourne's Back
This is not the film's title, fear not. But Bourne is probably the biggest comeback kid of all, following a hugely successful trilogy and the more recent sequel starring Jeremy Renner. And now, Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne. Where has he been these past few years? Will he cross paths with Renner's character Aaron Cross? We know that Julia Stiles is also back, and Tommy Lee Jones will be a CIA officer.  Filming has taken place in London, Berlin and Washington D.C; Damon also had a hand in writing the script.

No trailer, but here's a 'how it should have ended' clip for The Bourne Identity.

Bridget Jones's Baby
Oh Bridget. Britain's best-loved diary keeper is back and this time there's a baby on the way. Colin Firth is back as the cute Mark Darcy, but is there competition in the form of Patrick Dempsey's new character? No Hugh Grant (that we know of) though.

Which sequel can you simply not wait for? Stay tuned for the next edition with aalll the superheroes.
