8 things we know about Captain America: Civil War

Hold onto your capes...Marvel is pulling out all the stops for 2016's Captain America: Civil War. We all know it'll divide the superhero fort between Team Cap and Team Iron Man so that's not too much of a spoiler. But seeing as the last CA film, The Winter Soldier, remains one of my favourite Marvel movies to date, I think the twists and turns of the latest will really pack a bigger punch. SO...what do we know about it so far?

(If you want zero spoilers turn away now.)

1. The Avengers camp is split.
With the tagline, Divided We Fall, it's pretty obvious. It supposedly stems from their opposing responses to government calls for superhero oversight (vs superhero freedom). Tony Stark, Black Widow, War Machine, new character Black Panther and Vision vs Captain America, Falcon, The Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man. Boy, the Marvel universe suddenly got big didn't it?

2. Agent 13 is back
In the comic books, Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter aka Emily Thorne from Revenge aka something related to Peggy Carter, Cap's first love, definitely has a thing with Mr America. So, yeah, she'll be back and we'll see what happens.

3. Who is the villain?
There's so much going on already, you may forget the Bad Guy Villain of the movie. Little is known so far, but Daniel Bruhl plays Helmut Zemo, a shadowy villain. I'm told he's pretty bad-ass with a scary helmet in the comics, so we'll leave it at that.

4. Martin Freeman, who are you?
Our favourite detective sidekick and hobbit has been cast in a mystery role but apparently as a human, not superhero, who will have a small but one-to-be-watched role. He was purposely left out of an official cast list, so maybe this will be one of the surprise reveals nearer the release date.

5. Speaking of surprises...enter Spiderman
Tom Holland replaced Andrew Garfield as Spidey in the new Marvel-Sony agreement and according to Robert Downey Jr, he'll feature in the film.

6. No Thor or Hulk?
We're told the two (arguably most powerful) will be absent, because the fight would be over too quickly, according to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. They have a point, plus Thor is still off finding answers, and Hulk is in the middle of nowhere so that makes sense. (But then again, this is Marvel and they do like an audience shocker..)

7. Captain America found Bucky
The previous film dealt with Cap's best buddy formerly believed to be dead becoming a brainwashed super soldier. At the end, he goes looking for his friend, and clearly he's found him. But whose side is he really on?

8. It's going to be good
I'm going to say this with somewhat certainty. I mean, sure I'd love it if they could just all be best pals again, but with the new dynamic, the return of the Russo brothers as directors, new characters, the trailer...it's going to be good.

The film opens on 26th April in the UK, and 6th May in the US.
